Vejer de la Frontera, Spain – February 11, 2021 – Gudrun Patteet was back in the winner’s circle on Saturday at the Sunshine Tour. The €25,700 Small Grand Prix CSI 3* was highly contested today and proved to be a very exciting class in this first week of the Sunshine Tour. The quality of the riders competing here is top class with names such as Steve Guerdat (SUI), Jérôme Guery (BEL), Dermott Lennon (IRL), Richard Howley (IRL), Pénélope Leprevost (BEL) and Gregory Wathelet (BEL) all taking part.
Only 12 combinations got in to the jump off today but it proved to be one of the most competitive seen here so far with only hundredths of a second separating the first four placings. In the end it was Gudrun Patteet (BEL) riding Sea Coast Pebbles that took the top spot. One day before, Gudrun won the main class, the €25,700 Jump-off Challenge CSI 3* with Sea Coast Kasmira Z, but on Saturday she was victorious aboard the 15-year-old Zangersheide gelding (Picasso x Flamenco de Semilly), with whom she also won the €300,000 Longines Grand Prix of Lausanne CSI 5* and the €180,000 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup of Helsinki CSI 5*-W in 2018, showing the great talent she has in her string of horses at the moment.
The Belgian was just 0.21 seconds faster than the Dutch rider Henk Van de Pol (NED) with Cash Tent (Verdi x Niveau), the two finishing in second place.
Right on his heels in third place was another Olympic rider, who also rides for the Netherlands, Vincent Voorn, with Explosion (Applaus x Numero Uno), stopping the timers just 0.36s off the mark of the winning combination.
