Sharn Wordley & Gatsby Soar for the Gold in $25,000 Everglades Farm Equipment Grand Prix at Wellington

Wellington, Florida, USA – October 18, 2020 – Sharn Wordley (NZL) and Gatsby closed out the ESP Fall II last Sunday with a win in the $25,000 Everglades Farm Equipment Grand Prix at Equestrian Village.

The course, set by Andy Christiansen, tested a total of 22 horse-and-rider pairs on the Derby Field, but ultimately Sharn Wordley (NZL) and his 16-year-old grey Irish Sport Horse stallion (Simba x Cruise On) came out on top after stopping the jump-off timers in 33.385 seconds.

Santiago Lambre (MEX) and his Cetano Van Aspergem Z claimed the red rosette with a 34.017-second jump-off.

Fabio Leivas da Costa (BRA) piloted Verdi O’Merveilles through the jump-off in 34.292 seconds to earn a spot in the winner’s circle.

Wordley commented that although it’s always “nice to be on grass,” competing on the Derby Field provided him with a particular advantage. “He (Gatsby) won the derby here with Andrew Bourns years ago and has won many other classes on this field. He loves this field. It’s a pleasure when you’ve got one that loves the field and jumps better on it.”
