Léon, Guanajuato, Mexico – September 12, 2020 – The 2020 edition of the Banbajío Cup CSI 2* came to an end last Sunday nd it was Nicolas Alejandro Pizarro (MEX) and Pia Contra who claimed top honors in the $1,070,000 Banbajío Cup Grand Prix CSI 2* the day before at the at the Asociación Ecuestre de Léon Equestrian Center.
The main attraction of the second and final week of competition featured 43 combinations that were set to face 1.45m obstacles, with 11 of them advancing to the jump-off. Among them, the eventual winner Nicolas Pizarro (MEX), who teamed up with 9-year-old Oldenburg mare (Conthargos S x Chacco-Blue) to produce the fastest penalty-free jump-off performance, securing first place in 37.46 seconds.
Andres Torres (MEX) and Chabacon gave the eventual winners a run for their money, not only matching their clean scorecard, but finishing only a few fractions of a second off their pace, stopping the timers in 37.72 seconds at the end of their run during the tiebreaker.
Jose Antonio Chedraui (MEX) and Eis Isaura (Chacco-Blue x Bonny Z) were the only other combination that left all the poles up for no penalties in the decisive phase, rounding out the top three on the podium backed by a flawless effort in 38.66 seconds.
