
Valkenswaard, The Netherlands – September 14, 2020 – The Global Champions of Valkenswaard CSI 5* & 2* came to an end yesterday at the Tops International Arena. Besides the thrilling action of the CSI 5* classes, the day also featured the highlight for the CSI 2* participants, the €26,800 Big Tour Grand Prix CSI 2* on Sunday. There were 98 combinations and 18 of them stayed clear in the initial round and qualified for the jump-off. In the final battle it was Ireland’s Michael G Duffy (IRL) who clocked the fastest time with his 11-year-old Westphalian gelding Chappo Chey (Carell x Cornet Obolensky), stopping the timers at 38.41 seconds for the victory.
Runners-up were Britain’s Jack Whitaker (GBR) and Parkmore Rowan (ISH, Russel x Cruising). The 19-year-old son of Michael Whitaker (GBR) had a clear round in 38.80 seconds. Olivier Philippaerts (BEL) finished in third place with Le Blue Diamond van ‘t Ruytershof (BWP – Plot Blue x Diamant de Semilly).

Afterwards the 23-year-old rider, who runs a stable with his family in Knockmore, said: “I am really pleased with the win in the 2* Grand Prix with my horse Chappo Chey. He jumped his heart out in both rounds and in the jump-off he gave everything for me. I rode really fast and he was really on my side and helped me out today. I am really pleased with my horse, he really deserved the win. He has been knocking on the door lately, he was third a few weeks ago in the Grand Prix of Drammen.”
