Robert Blanchette & Coupis Claim $30,000 Showpark Summer Classic Grand Prix

San Juan Capistrano, California, USA – August 22, 2020 – Robert Blanchette (IRL) and Coupis topped the $30,000 Showpark Summer Classic Grand Prix last Saturday during the Blenheim EquiSports’ Showpark Summer Classic at the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park.

Only two riders advanced to the jump-off of the 1.50m challenge on a course designed by Leopoldo Palacios (VEN), but one of them had qualified aboard two different mounts. Shawn Casady (USA) was responsible for this feat on two of Neil Jones Equestrian’s horses, Cornet and Captain Jack. Blanchette and Coupis were the other duo to advance to the tiebreaker.

Casady set off first aboard Cornet, going clear in Palacios’ second-round course. Blanchette followed him aboard the 13-year-old grey Oldenburg gelding (Coupe de Coeur x Canabis), registering a penalty-free effort in 49.164 that would earn them the blue ribbon.

Casady had the advantage of going last aboard Captain Jack (Diamond Mac x Apache Chief), but unfortunately the duo had a pole down, meaning that they had to settle for third place.
