Maastricht, The Netherlands – August 21, 2020 – The organizing committee of Jumping Indoor Maastricht has, with a very heavy heart, decided that it is not safe to organise JIM, which was planned on 6-8 November 2020 in the MECC in Maastricht. “This difficult decision was made due to the uncertainty regarding the development of the Covid-19 virus. The health, social and financial risks are too big,” according to Ward Vleugels, chairman of the JIM foundation. The FEI Driving World Cup™ qualification will skip one year as well.

The organisation understands that it is a great disappointment for the (international) equestrian world, the visitors and sponsors. To ease the pain of waiting for the 2021 edition, several surprising alternative activities for different target groups will be set up. These activities will take place at the end of this year and in the first part of 2021 as far as the circumstances concerning the Covid-19 virus allow us to.

Virtual Tournament
We will organise a virtual tournament for all equestrian fans. All 28 Grand Prix (now called Longines Trophy) winners of the past 30 editions will be divided in four classes and the fans can vote which combination will qualify for the jump-off class on the following Sunday. Switzerland’s Beat Mändli (SUI) and Dutch top rider Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) won the Grand Prix twice with the same horse so there are only 28 combinations. Fans who vote can win nice prizes!

Sponsor Event
An exclusive meeting with a top speaker will be organised for the main sponsors. The social, economical and health effects of Corona will be the main issues during this event.

Arrival Sinterklaas
The arrival of Sinterklaas in Maastricht will be extra festive for the little children. Several ponies and horses will accompany Sinterklaas and his helpers during the arrival.

Meetings for Sponsors & Equestrian Fans
Meetings for sponsors and equestrian fans will be organised in the whole province of Limburg where representatives of the equestrian sector will inform the participants on the effects Corona had on their sport and businesses.

Master Jumping
The organisation is researching the possibility to organise an event at a special location, such as the ‘Vrijthof’ in the centre of Maastricht, in the first part of 2021.

We will regularly inform the media and target groups on the developments regarding the alternative activities and we are committed to make the 2021 edition, which will be held from 5 till 7 November, the best ever.

Geen Jumping Indoor Maastricht in 2020

Wél Alternatieve Activiteiten

Met pijn in het hart heeft de organisatie van Jumping Indoor Maastricht besloten dat het niet verantwoord is om JIM, dat 6 tot 8 november 2020 in het MECC te Maastricht zou plaatsvinden, door te laten gaan. “Aan dit moeilijke besluit ligt de grote onzekerheid omtrent de ontwikkeling van het Covid-19 virus ten grondslag waardoor de gezondheids-, maatschappelijke- en financiële risico’s te groot zijn”, aldus Ward Vleugels, voorzitter van Stichting JIM. Hierdoor zal ook de kwalificatie voor de FEI Driving World Cup™ (Mennen) Maastricht een jaar overslaan.

De organisatie begrijpt dat dit een grote teleurstelling is voor de (internationale) paardensportwereld, het publiek en de sponsoren. Om de pijn van het wachten tot JIM editie 2021 enigszins te verzachten worden er voor verschillende doelgroepen een aantal verrassende alternatieve activiteiten op touw gezet. Deze zullen eind dit jaar en in de eerste helft van 2021 plaatsvinden voor zover de omstandigheden rondom het Covid-19 virus dit toelaten.

Virtueel Toernooi
Voor alle paardensportfans wordt er een virtueel toernooi georganiseerd. Alle 28 winnaars van de Grote Prijs (tegenwoordig Longines Trophy) van de 30 edities zullen worden verdeeld over 4 rubrieken en de fans mogen stemmen wie er doorgaat naar de barrage rubriek op zondagmiddag. Geen 30 combinaties omdat de Zwitser Beat Mändli en de Nederlandse topruiter Maikel van der Vleuten beiden tweemaal hebben gewonnen met hetzelfde paard. Fans die stemmen maken kans op leuke prijzen!

Sponsor Event
Voor de hoofdsponsoren wordt er een exclusieve bijeenkomst georganiseerd waarvoor een topspreker wordt aangetrokken. De effecten van Corona, zowel op maatschappelijk-, economisch- en gezondheidsvlak zullen tijdens dit event aan de orde komen.

Intocht Sinterklaas
Voor de allerkleinsten, de Jimmy fans, zal de intocht van Sinterklaas in Maastricht dit jaar een extra feestelijk tintje krijgen. Diverse pony’s en paarden zullen Sinterklaas en zijn Pieten bij de intocht vergezellen.

Bijeenkomsten voor sponsoren en paardenliefhebbers
In zowel Noord-, Midden- als Zuid-Limburg worden er bijeenkomsten georganiseerd voor sponsoren en liefhebbers van de paardenwereld waarin de paardensport branche zal toelichten wat de effecten van Corona op hun sport en bedrijfsvoering is.

Master Springen
De JIM organisatie onderzoekt momenteel de mogelijkheid om een evenement te organiseren in de eerste helft van 2021 op een locatie zoals bijvoorbeeld het Vrijthof in Maastricht.

Zodra meer informatie bekend is over de alternatieve activiteiten zal dit gecommuniceerd worden aan de pers en de doelgroepen. De organisatie van JIM zet alles op alles om JIM in 2021, dat zal plaatsvinden van 5 t/m 7 november, dubbel geslaagd te maken.
