Clarbec, France – July 31, 2020 – Sadly, Haras de Clarbec announced earlier this week that Flora de Mariposa passed away. The 15-year-old chestnut Belgian Warmblood mare (For Pleasure x Power Light) was bred by Herman de Brabander and owned by Koen de Brabander, before moving on to Haras de Clarbec to be ridden by Pénélope Leprevost (FRA).

After joining Madame Geneviève Megret‘s renowned stables, the mare had huge success early on at the international level, including the team silver medal in the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen, France. The duo were also part of the French Team that claimed the gold medal in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Besides many top placings in major classes, the mare recorded 13 FEI-level wins in 175 starts:

“It is with deep and infinite sadness and immense heartbreak that we announce the disappearance of our fantastic mare Flora de Mariposa who has just been torn from us brutally, struck down by a devastating endotoxemia.

The legendary mare, Flora has left an impression on all those who have had the chance to cross her path and the many spectators who have seen her evolve in competition. Gold medalist with the French team at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, winner of the World Cup Grand Prix in Lyon and Oslo and the Grand Prix of Antwerp CSI 5*, winner of the FEI Nations Cup in La Baule CSIO 5* and Rotterdam CSIO 5*, Vice-World Champion in Caen with the French team … Twice elected horse of the year in 2016 and 2017, Flora was an exceptional mare. Associated with Pénélope Leprévost (FRA), she gave her unwavering support to France and made the heart of the horse planet beat by filling us with strong emotions and happiness.

Beyond her exceptional sporting performances, Flora was an extremely endearing mare with a strong personality that left no one indifferent. It brought us the greatest happiness and the greatest sporting successes.

We will remember her as a magical mare of pure talent, for whom jumping was easy and natural and who flew over obstacles with uncommon determination and personality.

Dear Flora, you were the mare of a lifetime, it has been a huge honor to be your owners. You will be deeply missed.

Goodbye Champion, you are leaving us too soon. Wherever you are now, be happy!

Nous garderons d’elle le souvenir d’une jument magique au talent à l’état pur, pour qui sauter était facile et naturel et qui volait au-dessus des obstacles avec une détermination et une personnalité hors du commun.

Chère Flora, tu étais la jument d’une vie, cela a été un immense honneur d’être tes propriétaires. Tu vas profondément nous manquer.
