Grimaud, France – July 07, 2020 – Julien Epaillard (FRA) and Virtuose Champeix jumped their way to victory in the €52,000 Special Two-Phase Class CSI 5* last Sunday during the third and penultimate week of the Hubside Jumping CSI 5*/4*/2*.

After having already won a Jump-off Class CSI 4* during the first week at the event, the “Flying Frenchman” and the always speedy 2009 Selle Français stallion (Rubins des Bruyeres x Avec Espoir) triumphed again by advancing to the second phase without having any penalties attributed to them, stopping the final timers in 37.84 seconds for the victory.

Jérôme Guery (BEL) and Eras Ste Hermelle (Vargas de Ste Hermelle x Andiamo) were right on the heels of the eventual winners, finishing second only due to their final time of 38 seconds flat.

Simon Delestre (FRA) and Chesall Zimequest (Casall x Concerto II) put on a solid effort tour, conquering the third spot on the podium by registering no penalties and crossing the finish line in only two-hundredths of a second slower than the latter two.

Virtuose had made a really stupid little mistake the first day and I wanted to take my revenge today with him. This morning again, very good riders were at the start and the race therefore ran very quickly! I took a lot of risks but Virtuose responded now. I am very happy. “

About the courses of Cédric Longis who takes on the role of Track Manager for the first time on a CSI5 * this week.
“For the moment, the courses are very good. I think it is very good that a new young French course designer is given the chance on this mission on the CSI 5*. This weekend, the line-up is exceptional, so I think he has a little pressure for this afternoon’s Grand Prix. I think he didn’t sleep very well last night! (laughs) But I have confidence, Cédric is a course designer who knows well. He has also studied the courses of the previous weeks a lot so I think the Grand Prix will be interesting.

Virtuose avait fait une petite faute vraiment bête le premier jour et je voulais prendre ma revanche aujourd’hui avec lui. Ce matin encore, de très bons cavaliers étaient au départ et l’épreuve s’est donc courue très vite ! J’ai pris beaucoup de risques mais virtuose à répondu présent. Je suis très heureux.” À propos des parcours de Cédric Longis qui endosse pour la première fois le rôle de Chef de piste sur un CSI 5* cette semaine.

“Pour l’instant les parcours sont très bien. Je trouve très bien que la chance soit donnée à un nouveau jeune chef de piste français d’assurer cette mission sur des CSI 5*. Ce week-end le plateau est exceptionnel donc je pense qu’il a un peu de pression pour le Grand Prix de cet après-midi. Je pense qu’il n’a pas très bien dormi cette nuit ! (rires) Mais j’ai confiance, Cédric est un chef de piste qui connait bien son métier. Il a aussi beaucoup étudié les parcours des semaines précédentes donc je pense que le Grand Prix sera intéressant.
