Vejer de La Frontera, Spain – March 08, 2020 – Having had just arrived at Montenmedio and not content with fourth place the day before with Heart’s Destiny in the 1.50m Big Tour class, last year’s Suzuki Grand Prix CSI 4* winner, the very talented Holly Smith (GBR) was back in the winner’s circle again.
The Brit brought out her other horse Denver, a 12-year-old bay Dutch Warmblood gelding (Memphis x Chico’S Boy) to claim top honors in the €26,775 John Deere Trophy CSI 3* yesterday during the fourth week of the Sunshine Tour.
The duo registered a clean scorecard in both of their two efforts, securing the victory in 42.92 seconds during the tiebreaker. Holly took over the ride on “Denver” last September and they had a great start together getting along immediately as the horse changed careers from eventing to pure showjumping. She has already had great success with him, in the final of the Nations Cup in Barcelona where she won a class and they were third in January in the FEI Jumping World Cup Grand Prix CSI 5*-W in Amsterdam.
Sixteen percent of the competitors, 14 riders, got in to the jump off, including the British rider, Harry Charles (GBR); Gonzalo Añón (ESP) and Roberto Previtali (ITA), who took second place with Viceversa de la Roque after penalty-free jump-off effort in 43.31 seconds.
Anthony Condon (IRL) took third place riding Zira VH Kapelhof Z (Kannan x Diamant de Semilly), rounding out the top three with no penalties and a final time of 43.67 seconds.
