Bertram Allen (IRL) has announced the retirement of his faithful partner Molly Malone V, one of the most admired horses in the sport. Molly was discovered by the Irishman’s dad at the Sunshine Tour as a 5-year-old. He chose renowned riders Billy Twomey (IRL) and Anthony Condon (IRL) to develop her.
Only at the age of 8, Bertram (IRL) started competing the now 15-year-old grey Anglo-European Sport Horse mare (Kannan x Cavalier). Besides several important classes the young lad and the sweet mare won several Grands Prix (Lummen, Dublin, Verona, Dinard, Stockholm, Geestern.) The dynamic duo also claimed the individual silver medal at the 2013 Junior European Show Jumping Championships in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain.
In 2014, the two showed brilliance under the limelight, with a triumph in the opening speed leg of the World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Normandy, France, competing against the very best in the world. At only 18, the current 33rd ranked-rider in the world guided the mare to an overall seventh-place finish in the coveted championships, earning even more respect all over the world.
Their streak of great results at important events continued the following year with a third-place finish in the FEI Jumping World Cup CSI 5*-W in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The grey mare is not only admired by her victories, but also due to her sweet temper, one that has much to do with the love and attention she has gotten over the years from her groom, Marleen Schanwell.
“Molly propelled me to the top of our sport at a very young age, and for that, I will be eternally grateful. We now look forward to the future where Molly will enter a new era of her career as a breeding mare!” – Bertram Allen
We wish Molly nothing but green fields and much success in her new role as broodmare.
