2019.06.16.99.99 Spruce Meadows CSI 5 Akita Beezie Madden & Jiva SMM

Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Canada – June 15, 2019 – Elizabeth “Beezie” Madden and Jiva won the $71,300 AKITA Drilling Cavalry Charge CSI 5*, the second leg of the Alberta Power Speed Challenge duing the ‘Continental’ at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

This series gives riders the opportunity to ride the same course in four different competitions over the 2019 Summer Series. The horse/rider combination with the best overall ranking over all four competitions wins the Alberta Power Speed Challenge.

The course was designed by FEI course designer Leopoldo Palacious (VEN) and made to fit in the International Ring and Meadows on the Green without any alteration to the track. This week thirty-nine horse/rider combinations tackled the track looking to move up the standings in the Alberta Power Speed Challenge.

With five horses left to go, Kent Farringon (USA) and Austria 2 ( Casall x Corrado I) were sitting at the top of the leaderboard with a quick time of 77.33 seconds, a mark that would eventually earn them silver honors.

Beezie Madden (USA) stepped into the ring looking to best her previous week’s time of 79.29 seconds that had landed her in fourth place. The American and the 9-year-old mare Belgian Warmblood mare (Concorde x Nonstop) quickly settled into the 1.50m course, knocking two seconds off their time to land on 77.23 seconds – taking them to first place.

Jordan Coyle (IRL) and Picador (Lupicor x Concorde) registered the fastest time among all the 39 starters (76.41 seconds), but their four penalty-points because of one rail down meant four additional seconds added to their time for a total of 80.41 seconds, still good enough to earn them bronze honors.

“She’s (Jiva) a very careful horse and sometimes a little shy when going fast over a lot of impressive fences out here. This (Alberta Power Speed Challenge) as been really good for her building her bravery and it showed today.”- Beezie Madden (USA) on her horse Jiva in the AKITA Drillling Cavalry Charge.
