Bertram Allen (IRL) and Christy JNR scorched the sand on their way to winning the $100,000 Longines Speed Challenge CSI 5* on Saturday night, making it a second victory in the “fastest competition in the world” for the Irishman and sending the Hong Kong fans delirious.

Allen not only loved it, he also broke into a beaming smile after setting a flawless performance and time of 60.47 seconds aboard the 10-year-old chestnut Belgian Warmblood gelding (Indoctro x Clinton), a mark that proved far too quick – and too good.
Behind him, came Patrice “King of Hong Kong” Delaveau (FRA) and Vestale de Mazure*HDC (Landor S x Quidam de Revel ) 62.88 seconds.
Fellow countryman Kevin Staut (FRA), winner of the Speed Challenge CSI 5* in Paris, and Ayade de Septon*HDC (Wandor van de Mispelaere x Belle d’Avril du Mazy) were third with no penalties, crossing the finish line in 62.94 seconds.
Podium: 2 – Patrice Delaveau (FRA), 1 – Bertram Allen (IRL) 3 – Kevin Staut (FRA) with Fernanda Trilha Ameeuw
“I like to smile when I ride well,” said Allen. “I’m delighted and my horse ran superbly. The people here in Hong Kong really love it. They really enjoy their time and watching the horses. I love it.”
What a day it was and as night descended on Asia World-Expo, DJ sets by Jeremie Charlier and then Henri PFR kept everyone moving – and cheering for more.
