The 2019 Indoor Wierden CSI 2* came to a close yesterday hosting its crown jewel class, the €25,000 NIJWA Groep Grand Prix of Wierden CSI 2*. Forty-eight combinations from 10 countries registered to compete in the 1.45m jump-off challenge.
Fourteen combinations qualified for the tiebreaker and the Dutch crowd was delighted with the final result since the top six placings were all taken by national riders.
Hendrik-Jan Schuttert (NED) and Balboa HS led the way, claiming victory in thrilling fashing. The Dutchman and the 12-year-old bay Dutch Warmblood gelding (Tygo x Furore) topped the rest of the field by posting their second penalty-free performance, stopping the timers in 44. 35 seconds.
Peter Geerink (NED) and Florijn 2 (Carthino Z x Heartbreaker) were the runners-up, finishing only four-tenths of a second behind.
The gap between the second-place and third-place finishers was even tighter, with Aniek Diks (NED) and Fiarabo earning bronze honors being four-hundredths of a second slower than the latter two.
