Sadly, Jos Lansink’s (BEL) world champion partner Cumano passed away last Thursday after 25 years of memorable moments on and off the rings.

The Belgian and the grey Holsteiner stallion (San Patrignano Cassini x Landgraf I) teamed up for top honors in the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games at Aachen, finished second at the 2007 European Jumping Champions in Manheim.

The stallion excelled at the world’s most prominent stages, with, one of them being in Calgary, having achieved a first place there in (2004), second in 2008 and third in 2007, all Grand Prixs at Spruce Meadows.

Jos Lansink made the following statement on his Facebook page:

“Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to Cumano today. He was a horse who never gave up and never let me down. After his sporting career, he was enjoying his well deserved retirement in the fields at my stables in Meeuwen.

He was in the field day in and day out.

Even when he was enjoying his retirement, he always showed that he was still the king.

Thank you for everything, buddy.

You’re not with us anymore, but you will live forever in our hearts.”

Our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Lansink and all those who love Cumano.
