Our favorite night of the week is back and we could not be more pleased with the great turnout. With a packed stadium, top class riders and horses rose to the occasion taking on the challenging track set by Manuel Esparza, making for an exciting yet intimate atmosphere under the lights. Twenty four combinations crossed the start timers in yesterday’s The International $70,200 Grand Prix CSI 2*, presented by Groupby.
The first rider on course was sixteen years old Sam Walker (CAN) aboard Acardi Du Houssoit Z, posting a clear round, after the time allowed was adjusted to seventy-six seconds. Only five riders were clear and advanced to the jump-off. Sam was joined by Ali Ramsay, Molly Ashe-Cawley (USA), Susan Horn (CAN); Rachel Cornacchia (CAN).
Susan Horn (CAN) feeling the sweet taste of victory
However, it was Horn riding Lillyfee who bested the field and stood on the top of the podium. The Canadian and the 15-year-old grey Holsteiner mare (Limbus x Carthago Z) earned the victory after a penalty-free jump-off performance in 36.714 seconds.
Ali Ramsay (CAN) and Hermelien vd Hooghoeve (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Thunder van de Zuuthoeve) secured second place after registering no penalties and a time of 37.605 seconds during the tiebreaker.
Rache Cornacchia (CAN) and Valkyrie de Talma (Diamant de Semilly x Cento) completed the all-Canadian podium as the fastest combination with four penalty-points in the jump-off, going through the timers in 37.560 seconds.
