Battle of Titans at Jumping Chantilly! Twenty 23 among World’s Top 30 Set to Battle for Fame, Fortune & Glory

2018. Chantilly CSI 5 Preview Simon Delestre & Chadino RB Presse

Twenty-three riders from the world’s top 30: among other things, it is the content of the exceptional plateau of Jumping International Chantilly to be held in the heart of the racecourse from July 12 to 15. A high-flying sport show completely free for the public!

And of course, at the top of this Top 30, the world No. 1, the Dutchman Harrie Smolders (NED) who had also started his climb to the top of the Longines FEI Ranking in Chantilly last year, when he won the Grand Prix of the Longines Global Champions Tour, after having also won the team event of the Global Champions League. Will it be a new double this year?

Smolders will not be really lonely; the competition will be tough in Chantilly. For example, the 2008 Canadian Olympic champion Eric Lamaze (CAN), an iconic rider on the international circuit, will also be present, as well as a German icon rider, Ludger Beerbaum (GER), the most successful medallist of all time, with the companions of his last medal, the Olympic bronze in Rio: Daniel Deusser (GER), 2014 World Cup winner, and Marcus Ehning, whose courses are always a feast for the eyes, as well as Christian Ahlmann (GER).

2018. Chantilly CSI 5 Preview Ludger Beerbaum RB Presse

Ludger Beerbaum (GER)

Ludger Beerbaum (GER) has won twenty-one medals, including four Olympic gold ones: a legend. But he will not be the only legend of the sport in Chantilly: the English Whitaker brothers, John and Michael (GBR), will be gathered once again on the grass of the Arène Meautry with their teammates of the young generation, Scott Brash (GBR), Olympic team champion in 2012 … just like Ben Maher (GBR), who is leading the overall ranking of the Longines Global Champions Tour since the Paris leg. The Australian Edwina Tops Alexander (AUS) remains in ambush to recover her place at the lead of the circuit.

Difficult to put names forward with such a starter list: they are all exceptional … Let us mention perhaps the American ‘‘daughters of…’’. The one of Michael Bloomberg, Georgina (USA), who is perfectly integrated among the world elite, and was selected several times for the Nations Cup in her national team, just like Jessica Springsteen (USA), the daughter of the ‘‘boss’’, Bruce Springsteen (who often comes to Chantilly), who already took several victories and rankings in this magic place; more ‘‘junior’’, the daughter of Bill Gates, Jennifer (USA), decided to assert herself better on the international circuit by moving to Europe for a year, in the stables of the world No. 1 Harrie Smolders (NED). ‘‘Daughters of…’’ who have made a first name in the equestrian sports!

Let’s also talk about our Frenchmen, Olympic champions Roger-Yves Bost (FRA), Kevin Staut (FRA) and Philippe Rozier (FRA), whose brother, Thierry, has taken over the sport direction of the Jumping International of Chantilly; without forgetting Simon Delestre (FRA) and Julien Epaillard (FRA) who always aim to offer a tricolour victory to their audience.

A public that will be able to come and immerse themselves in the atmosphere and attend the first preparatory classes from Thursday, July 12th: During all the weekend, the access to the site and to the shopping village is free. Two competition arenas (the Arène Meatry and the Amphitéâtre de Verdure) that will host the two-star events with, among others, the actor and horseman Guillaume Canet), a shopping village and particularly great restaurants that make the reputation of this extraordinary jumping.
