Rich Fellers & Lux Lady Top ATCO Connect Cup CSI 5* at Spruce Meadows

2018. Spruce Meadows CSI 5 ATCO Rich Fellers & Lux Lady SMM

Richard “Rich” Fellers (USA) & Lux Lady won the ATCO Connect Cup CSI 5* last Friday during the ‘North American’ Tournament at Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Canada.

It marked the start of the final weekend of the 2018 Spruce Meadows Summer Series. Great sport, entertainment and family fun were underway on the grounds for all to enjoy.

The International Ring began with the ATCO Connect Cup (1.45m) and 67 horse/rider combinations started the competition with the hopes of jumping into the winners circle. Only three combinations would jump clear in round one to advance into the jump off. Rich Fellers (USA), Luis Alejandro Plascencia (MEX) and Eric Lamaze (CAN) each were ready to take on the jump-off track designed by FEI course designer Santiago Varela (ESP).

Fellers (USA) and the 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare (Lux Z x Master Imp) were the first ones into the ring for the jump-off and had a rail in 45.290 seconds to leave the door open for the remaining two riders.

Plascencia (MEX) decided to take it steady aboard Jack White (Casco x Calvados) and would end his jump-off round with 5 penalty-points due to one rail down in 55.200 seconds, leaving a door and window open for Lamaze (CAN) to take the win.

Eric Lamaze (CAN) & Chesney (Indoctro x Kannan) had couple of unlucky rails in 50.410 seconds, meaning that Fellers had earned the unlikely win even with a rail in the jump off.

Rich Fellers:

“I started coming here (Spruce Meadows) in 1977 and I don’t recall ever winning in the jump off with a rail.”
