Yet again the hosts went off with the win at Knokke Hippique, this time in the Top Series 1.45m Grand Prix Qualifier CSI 3*, presented by Tender Capital. After being extremely close to the victory in last night’s five-star feature class, Gudrun Patteet did not let another chance go to waste and snatched the top honours from Daniel Deusser (GER) after a blistering fast jump-off round on Sea Coast Coco Berlini (Caspar x Quidam de Revel).
“I saw Daniel’s round, and he was really quick so I knew I had to be fast. I really tried, and it worked out,” said Patteet after her win. “I started riding Coco Berlini when she was eight, she is ten now. She is very talented, but sometimes she makes her life difficult by jumping too high or running a bit too deep so for the bigger sport she needs a bit more time but she will get there.”
“Normally the plan is that Just The Music is going to jump the five-star Grand Prix here on Sunday, but he is only nine – so I will decide after the five-star class tonight when I know how he feels,” said Patteet who won last year’s Rolex Grand Prix at Knokke Hippique. “I would like to jump him, he is my best horse for the future and I want to give him the experience.”
With 80 riders in the class, and 18 in the jump-off it was a difficult task to get on the podium but Stephex Stables’ Daniel Deusser and Cassini Bay (Cassini I x Acord II) managed – 0.51 seconds shy of Patteet’s winning time. Third place went to Christian Ahlmann (GER) on Cornwell 9 (Cornado Nrw x Grossadmiral).
