Wilm Vermeir (BEL) secured a home win in Thursday evening’s €25,900 Top Series Grand Prix qualifier CSI 3* presented by TAO. Riding the 12-year-old mare Gentiane de La Pomme (Shindler de Muze x Diamant de Semilly), Vermeir took an early lead with his time of 62.71 seconds and held on to it until the very end.
“Gentiane de La Pomme wins a lot of these classes, she also won a five-star speed class here last year,” Vermeir said. “She had a break now for three weeks, and was not actually supposed to come here but another horse could not go so this result was super. I was early on in the class, and it’s quite special then to keep the lead the whole way until start no. 82 was finished!”
“It’s really amazing to have an event like this here in Belgium,” Vermeir continued. “I think it is quite difficult to organize shows in the first place, so to do it in this way is really fantastic. For us as riders it is unbelievable to compete here!”
Nicola Philippaerts (BEL) took care of the second place, much to the joy of the hosts – clocking the time of 64.69 in this 1.45m speed class aboard J’Adore van het Schaeck (Vagabond de La Pomme x Darco). Third place went to Christian Ahlmann (GER) on Cornwell 9 (Cornado NRW x Grossadmiral) in 65.95 seconds, followed by three more of his compatriots on the result list.
