Porto Alegre, Brazil – April 22, 2018 – Luiz Felipe Pimenta Alves (BRA) & GB Celine won the R$110,000 Massey Ferguson – City of Porto Alegre Grand Prix yesterday during The Best Jump CSI 2*-W in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
It was the 50th anniversay of one of the most traditional showjumping competitions in South America, making it even more attractive to all participants.
The journey towards victory in the Brazilian and the 10-year-old bay Brazilian Sport Horse mare in the 1.40m-1.60m two-round contest began in the first round when the duo qualified among the twelve combinations for the next round after registering four penalties in 85.35 seconds.
When the duo entered the ring for the second time, none of the other previous finalists had registered a double clear. Luiz not only managed a penalty-free performance that kept him in the title chase but also managed to register the lowest time so far, stopping the timers in fifty-seven seconds flat.
After having the only fault-free performance in the first round, Pedro Backheuser (BRA) & JCR Quantico were the last ones to go but could not duplicate the feat, knocking down two poles which meant an honorable seventh place for the youngster.
Rafael Isasac (URU) & P’ Compadre Wind Shear (Ekstein x Orlando) were the runners-up with a total of four-penalties and a time of 59.45 seconds during the second phase.
Martin Rodriguez (URU) & Liborius (Quiality x Landadel) earned bronze honors with the lowest score among all other finalists, totaling five penalty-points after a run in 64.29 seconds during round 2.
