Alberto Michan is now officially riding for Israel. The 39-year-old rider who was born in Mexico had been riding for his native country but has decided to switch sides after having become an Israeli citizen.
Born on December 2, 1978, Michán has recorded several major wins throughout his career, including CSI 5* level one in Spruce Meadows, a CSI 4* level during the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida, and a very honorable fifth place in Individual Jumping at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
He also earned team bronze during the 2011 Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico and defended the Central-American country at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, both the 2006 and 2014 World Equestrian Games. He was also a finalist at the FEI World Cup Jumping back in 2006 and 2007.
Team Israel manager Hai Prince stated the following in a press release:
“Michan is an invaluable addition to our team and his talent and sportsmanship brings us one step closer to our goal of bringing Team Israel to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
