Sanne Thijssen (NED) & Bacardi won the €24,600 Voltaire Design sponsored speed class CSI 4* last Sunday during the the Liverpool International Horse Show CSI 4* in England. Thijssen and the 12-year-old bay Dutch Warmblood gelding (Numero Uno x Action Hero) were victorious in the 1.45m contest when they crossed the finish line in 50.90 seconds without registering any penalties.
Moreover, Thijssen showed great mental strength to be able to ride with such poise, especially after the heartbreaking loss of her 11-year-old mare Sara Galotiere (Ideal de La Loge x Lieu de Rampan) in a freak accident during the previous night’s four-star international jump-off class. The win came under sad circumstances as the class had to be interrupted due to fire in the nearby car park.
Shane Breen (IRL) & CSF Vendi Cruz (Ars Vivendi x Cruising) clinched second place with no penalties in 51.30 seconds William Funnell (GBR) & Billy Angelo also registered a clear scorecard, securing third place in 51.69 seconds.
Show President Nina Barbour complimented Sanne’s bravery:
“It was a remarkable and brave performance by Sanne,” said Nina. Sadly, we didn’t get to celebrate her performance after she rode with such skill and determination to win a very competitive world-ranking class a day after she suffered such a terrible loss. “It was truly outstanding, and she should be very proud of her victory.”
