Don VHP Z was elected 2017 Horse of the Year in Belgium, receiving the award yesterday during the Jumping Mechelen CSI 5*-W in Belgium. It was also a special occasion for Harrie Smolders (NED), the brilliant rider who guided the 13-year-old liver chesnut Zangersheide stallion (Diamant de Semilly x Voltaire) to countless clear rounds, winning not only the Longines Global Champions Tour but also the Global Champions League.
Owners Axel and Nena Verlooy and groom Alex Tyler-morris were also present, making the celebration complete for everyone.
The duo dominated the sport, putting on clear performances when it mattered the most, in fact, over 30 clear rounds at the CSI 5* level, nearly as much as HH Azur and H&M All In combined.
