First there were twelve; twelve riders aiming to win the Grand Prix Land Rover of the CSI 2* of Equita Lyon. But they had to ride fast to have a chance of winning in front of the sell-out crowd. It seemed no-one would manage to better the time of 38”82 scored by the in-form Jean-Luc Mourier on Souvienstoi Lariviera, until Benoît Cernin finally put in a great jump-off round in 37”88 on the highly promising Tea Star d’Oyale, the son of Quick Star. “This horse is amazing, a real phenomenon. He is talented and obedient. He gave everything,” said Benoît Cernin, who would be confirmed as the winner of the CSI 2* a few minutes later.
Alexandre Fontanelle & Quaprice de l’Etivant
No other rider managed to do a better time. However, the last rider out in the jump-off, the young Alexandre Fontanelle had the spectators on the edge of their seats. Riding Quaprice de L’Etivant, he finally finished in 38”33 after an amazing last straight, giving him second place in the final rankings. A total of six couples managed a double clear round in this Grand Prix.
