A Historic Win by Daniel Deusser in the Hööks Prize CSI 5*-W

Gothenburg, Sweden – February 20, 2026 – Top German rider Daniel Deusser (GER) wrote himself into the history books on Friday when he claimed his 30th five-star victory at 1.55 height – a milestone achieved in 15 years at the highest level. No European rider has more wins in five-star 1.55 classes since 2010. Globally, only Kent Farrington (USA) has more wins (38).

The victory was also the first for a German rider in a five-star class in Gothenburg in over five years – the last time it was Daniel Deusser who won the Gothenburg Trophy 2020 with Calisto Blue. Friday’s class, the €60,000 Hööks Prize CSI 5*-W , was won with Otello de Guldenbloom.

“I don’t have the fastest horse, so I was looking for alternatives – if I could go inside or around. I hesitated a bit, but finally I did it and it worked. The horse was really with me today”, says Daniel Deusser.

Strong Swedish Effort behind the Winner

Behind Deusser, Petronella Andersson (SWE) continued her impressive streak in the class. The result line in Gothenburg speaks for itself with victories in both 2024 and 2025. This year she had to settle for second place.

“Winning is always fantastic, but the course was not optimal for my horse today and I didn’t want to risk too much. In previous years I have won this class but not been as successful in the World Cup. This year I changed my strategy and wanted to give her a good round now, because she gets quite hot,” says Petronella Andersson.

“I didn’t expect to win today – especially after seeing Daniel’s round. My horse is naturally very fast, so I aimed for the top ten,” says Petreonella.

Malin Baryard-Johnsson (SWE) & H&M Indiana

Third place went to Malin Baryard-Johnsson (SWE), who thus took her fourth podium in a 1.50+ class in Gothenburg since 2010. She previously had two second places (2017) and two third places (2010 and 2026).

“I am very happy. It is a fantastic feeling to deliver a flawless round in front of the Swedish audience – they are absolutely incredible. Indiana felt great today. When I saw Daniel ride so fast and so well, I thought that I might have to let the victory go this time, but the round felt really good,” says Malin Baryard-Johnsson.

With Malin Baryard-Johnsson and Indiana still in top form, there are good Swedish hopes ahead of the week’s remaining highlight – her first major victory in Gothenburg in over 15 years may well be within reach.
