Oliva Nova, Spain – November 06, 2020 – Another chapter of the book “Great Rivalries of Showjumping” was written on Friday during the second week of the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour‘s Autumn Tour. The main class on Friday was the €26,600 Two-Phase Challenge CSI 2*, for the Dammann Reitplatz- u. Sportplatzbau Trophy, a 1.45m contest that also served as one of the qualifier for the Grand Prix on Sunday.
Two of the all-time winningiest riders at the venue, Harold Boisset (FRA) and David Will (GER) stole the spotlight on Thursday, going head-to-head and eventually placing two of their rides among the top six. David ended up winning the class but Boisset claimed second and third place. More drama was added to Friday’s chapter with the latter two being joined by the Flying Frenchman, Julien Epaillard (FRA), another constant winner at the venue.
The battle among the three riders did not disappoint, but the outcome was different from the one the day before, with Boisset coming out on top aboard Divine de La Roque. The Frenchman and the 2008 bay Dutch Warmblood mare (For Hero x Kannan) advanced to and completed the second phase without having any penalties attributed to them, stopping the final timers in 29.03 seconds.
The newcomer in this story of rivalry made his presence known, guiding Usual Suspect d’Auge (Jarnac x Papillon Rouge) towards silver honors, backed by a clean scorecard while being timed only six-hundredths seconds slower than the winners.
David Will (GER) did not win this time, however, the German still managed to secure the third spot on the podium on Quentucky Jolly, registering no penalties while crossing the finish line in 29.57 seconds.
