Harrie Smolders (NED) and his top horse Don VHP Z N.O.P. will not defend the Orangemen during the 2019 Longines FEI European Championships in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Chef d’Equipe Rob Ehrens was clear about the major loss to the Dutch Team:
“Harrie will not get Don VHP Z N.O.P. in the right form needed in time for the championships. It is very unlucky, but we have no other option than switching combinations. For this reason, they did not competed at the CHIO van Geesteren.
“There was already a good feeling about the competing in Falsterbo, but Harrie was not sure yet, so he also went to Berlin. He’s not quite in shape and we decided not to take Don to Rotterdam. For a European Championship, certainly in your own country, you have to be in the flow, otherwise it will not work. It is a pity, but it is part of the sport. Doron Kuipers (NED) and Charley are now moving on to the starting team and Bart Bles (NED) and Israel van de Dennehoeve become the reserves.”
The following riders and horses were chosen to represent the Ruiters in Orange in Rotterdam:
Marc Houtzager (NED) & Sterrehof’s Calimero
Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) & Dana Blue
Frank Schuttert (NED) & Lyonel D
Doron Kuipers (NED) & Charley
Bart Bles (NED) & Israel van het Dennehoeve (reserves)
The 2019 Longines FEI European Championships will take place from August 19th to the 25th in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
