Pius Schwizer (SUI) closed the out the first day of competition during the Longines CSI Basel 5*-W in Switzerland, winning his second consecutive class, this time the CHF $60,000 Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois Prize CSI 5*.
The Swiss rider could not be matched by any of the other 43 combinations, riding Cortney Cox, a 10-year-old chestnut Mecklenburg gelding (Carlo x Espri), over all the 1.50m obstacles flawlessly and lightning fast across the finish line in 59.26 seconds.
Max Kühner (AUT) and Cornet Kalua (Cornet Obolensky x Platin) earned silver honors, registering no penalties and with a much slower time of 62.15 seconds.
Pieter Devos (BEL) completed the podium on Gin D (Clinton x Skippy II), just one-tenth of a second slower than the latter two.
