The Morocco Royal Tour, upgraded to a 4* competition, has never been better attended. Year after year, the selection keeps getting better and for this edition, it is simply exceptional! With Olympic riders, medallists from all kinds of championships, including former World N°1, seventeen nations will be represented on this circuit: a record!
The first former World No.1 who will attend the MRT will be the bronze medallist at the European Championship 2015, one of the top riders of the circuit: Simon Delestre (FRA), who has confirmed his participation at the three legs of the Morocco Royal Tour. The French team will be particularly competitive this year. Alongside the Hermès rider, the comeback of the Olympic Team Champion, Philippe Rozier (FRA), the 2010 runner up World Team Champion, Olivier Guillon (FRA), was quoted as “impatient to discover this prestigious Moroccan circuit.”
Another great name in the equestrian sports, Marco Kutscher (GER), European Champion in 2005 and twice medallist: individual bronze medal in 2004 Olympic Games, and team gold medal in the European Championship in 2005 and 2011. It is the first time German riders participate in the Morocco Royal Tour. The Beerbaum House’s “former jockey” will attend the competition with Marcel Marschall (GER), winner of a 4* Grand Prix in Samorin in July.
Emanuele Gaudiano (ITA)
Besides France, Italy will also present a first-choice team in order to take over Switzerland, last year’s winner of this Nations Cup. Experienced Natale Chiaudani (ITA) will be next to Emmanuele Gaudiano (ITA), who won no less than four classes last year in Tetouan) to enhance the basis of the Squadra Azzura.
Around the Olympic rider Jérôme Guery (BEL), Belgium is also a solid candidate, as well as Great Britain with the experienced Robert Smith (GBR), 4th place at Olympic Games in Athens, Jessica Mendoza (GBR), who, despite her young age (only 22 years old), shined regularly in 5* competitions before the departure of Spirit D, with whom she became Young Riders European Champion in 2014. This British team also includes a mythic name: the Whitakers, with Ellen, John and Michael’s niece, bronze medal Team in the European Championship in Mannheim in 2007.
Pius Schwizer (SUI)
Last year’s winner, The Swiss team will again be built around one of the most loyal riders of the MRT, another former World No.1: Pius Schwizer (SUI), Olympic medallist (bronze medal team), European Champion (gold medal team in 2009), two times on the World Cup podium and once more Swiss champion last year. He will be supported by another regular of the MRT circuit, Alain Jufer (SUI), who just participated in the Nations Cup at the famous CSIO 5* in Spruce Meadows.
Samy Colman (MOR)
Some serious challenges for the Moroccan team, the selections of which have not been announced yet. However, we can be sure to meet the stars of the discipline: Abdelkebir Ouaddar (MOR), the Moroccan rider who won a 5* Grand Prix, or the young Samy Colman (MOR), thanks to whom the Moroccan national anthem was sang in the arena of the very prestigious CSIO 5* of La Baule last year.
