François Mathy Jr. (BEL) & Casanova de L’Herse won the €24,920 Voltaire Design sponsored speed class last Saturday during The Equerry Bolesworth International Horse Show CSI 4* at the Bolesworth Castle in Tattenhall, Chester, England.
The Belgian and the 10-year-old bay Belgian Sport Horse stallion (Ugano Sitte x Kashmir van Schuttershof) triumphed in the 1.45m contest by overcoming all the obstacles and registering no penalties in 54.69 seconds for the victory.
It was a very tight call between the top two best-placed combinations as Robert Smith (GBR) & Ilton (Dulf van den Bisschop x Calvaro) only finished second due to their time of 54.86 seconds.
Billy Twomey (IRL) & Ardcolum Duke (Gypsy Duke x Clover Hill) were even close to the latter two, finishing only three-hundredths of a second slower.
François Mathy Junior:
“I am very happy,” Francois said. “The horse jumped great and I was lucky enough to be quicker than the others”.
“The horse has been winning a lot, and is very competitive. I was quite tight in the beginning of the course, and you know you can always be quicker”.
“It was not a course where you would really open up your horse. You could make time in the turns, not so much in the long gallops, and a very nice course”.
“I love this show. It is the third year in a row I’ve been here. The horse today was fourth in the grand prix last year, so he likes it here too”.
“There is a special atmosphere here. It is such a special place.”
